Florence & the Machine have released the first new song/video from their second album, produced by Paul Epworth, due to be released on November 7th. According to NME “The track is named after a painting by Mexican artist Frida Kahlo and has also been part inspired by the death of author Virginia Woolf, who drowned herself in a river by filling her coat pockets with stones.” “What The Water Gave Me” is a brilliant song, less instantly addictive than most of Lungs but firmly ensnares the listener after a few repeat hearings. Much more orchestral, almost operatic at times, the song suggests the possible new direction Florence’s album will take. Also the video gives me a newfound appreciation for Florence’s adorable dancing. Have a listen/look.
